Family and friends remember Des McGuire as a beacon of kindness and quiet courage, whose gentle humour and unwavering support enriched every life he touched. A devoted husband to Catherine and a loving father to Paul, Ross, and Sharon, he met the trials of illness with remarkable bravery, never losing the warmth of his smile or the twinkle of his wit. Whether walking the Camino, sharing melodies in the Male Voice Choir, or perfecting his shots at the golf club, Des exemplified true friendship, always ready with encouragement, a witty remark, or a reassuring presence when it was needed most.
In every community he joined, be it Eagle Star’s offices, Waterford Camera Club, or the hospital corridors, Des’s integrity and compassion shone through. He greeted neighbours with genuine interest, listened with empathy, and lifted spirits with stories of days gone by. His legacy of generosity, resilience, and laughter lives on in the countless memories he created and in the gratitude his family holds for the Oak Ward staff who cared for him. Though we mourn his loss, we celebrate a life lived with grace and a spirit that continues to inspire. May his gentle soul find its rest, and may we carry forward his example of love and courage.
