Remembering the life of

Catherine O’Byrne (née Cullen)

Grange Heights, Waterford City, Waterford, X91DNY6

Family and Friends Remember Catherine O’Byrne as a woman of quiet grace, unwavering kindness, and deep inner strength. In every tribute, the same truth shines through: Catherine made people feel at ease. She brought warmth to every conversation and dignity to every room she entered. To her beloved husband Jack, her daughters Mary, Ruth and Kate, and her adored grandchildren, she was not only the centre of the home but the heart of their world, someone who gave her love freely, and who listened with care, always.

Catherine’s kindness reached well beyond her family. She was fondly remembered by neighbours, classmates, and friends from every chapter of life, from her school days at St. John of God’s to her retirement years. “She was truly a special lady,” one friend wrote. Another recalled the gentle joy of chatting with her, saying simply, “It was always a pleasure to be in her company.” In her final years, Catherine faced illness with the same dignity and calm that defined her life. The strength she showed was quiet, but it did not go unnoticed. Her grace, her gentleness, and the love she shared will remain with all who had the honour of knowing her.

Late of Grange Heights, Waterford City. Catherine passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday the 15th of July 2025. RIP.

Predeceased by her beloved parents Richard and Nellie Cullen.

Catherine will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Jack; her daughters Mary, Ruth, and Kate; her adoring grandchildren Grace, Mary-Kate, Jack, Sadie, Eliza, Billy and Giles; her brother Maurice; and her sons-in-law Kieran, Martin, and Michael. Catherine will be fondly remembered by all her nieces and nephews, extended family, relatives, wonderful neighbours, and many friends.

The O’Byrne family would like to thank with great appreciation Dr. Mike Henry in Cork University Hospital and Prof. Mark Rogan and all the medical staff in University Hospital Waterford for the exceptional support and care Catherine received throughout her illness.
