Family and friends remember Richie Grant as a man who built things with both his hands and his heart. Founder of Grant’s Florist on Keane’s Road, a cherished family business now carried on by his son Raymond, Richie was a humble craftsman whose creations brightened every corner of Waterford. A devoted father to Raymond, Carmel, Laura, and Deirdre, and adored by his grandchildren, he carried tenderness and pride in every gesture. Whether greeting a customer with a thoughtful arrangement or sharing stories of the old days, Richie showed warmth, generosity, and quiet strength.
He was also a man of simple joys and enduring passions. A keen cyclist with the Blazing Saddles group, he found freedom on two wheels. At home, Frank Sinatra’s My Way seemed to sum up his spirit, celebrating a life lived with clarity and conviction. In quieter moments, he was by a bridge table, focused and steady, just as he was in life,”a very simple, straight-to-the-point kind of man,” as one friend wrote. He lived life with purpose, humour, and integrity. To those who knew him well, neighbors, co-workers, cyclists, and family, Richie was a trusted friend, a dependable presence, and a gentle, generous soul.
