Family and friends remember Mary Kelly as a woman of warmth, humour and unmistakable presence, someone who brought life and laughter into every room she entered. Late of Pine Grove in Tramore and formerly of Ballybricken in Waterford City, Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Laurence and her brothers Tom, Frank, John and Jim. She was a devoted mother to Jack and Tara, a proud mother-in-law to Therese and Gerard, and a deeply cherished grandmother to Isabelle, James, David, Hugh, Zack, Daniel and Amelia. Mary was known to so many through her years in Stella Maris, where she was remembered as kind, efficient and endlessly supportive, a “breath of fresh air” who met everyone with warmth and understanding. Whether sharing chats in the hairdresser, meeting friends over lunch, playing bridge or simply stopping for a conversation, she had a natural way of making people feel welcome. She was described as “always with a smile and a chat for everyone” and as “a legend in her own lifetime,” a reflection of the genuine love and admiration held for her.
Those who knew Mary best speak of a woman full of life, style and spirit, someone with a sharp wit, a generous heart and a beautiful singing voice that stayed with people long after the moment had passed. She was remembered as “a great character with a great sense of humour,” a woman of “verve and vivacity” whose presence lifted those around her and whose pride in her family was clear in every conversation. Her kindness, her laughter and her ability to bring people together will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. In the words of her son, “Thanks mum for everything, the memories, the great times, the support and for being a lady,” a simple tribute that captures the love she gave and the legacy she leaves behind, one of warmth, strength and a life that touched so many.
