Family and friends remember Thomas “Tom” Sex as a warm, intelligent and deeply genuine man whose kindness, humour and quiet wisdom left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Late of Leoville, Waterford City, and formerly of Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Tom was a devoted husband and best friend to Ger, a proud and loving father to Lena, Liz, Becky and LouLou, and a cherished grandfather to Lucy, Grayson, Leo and Violet, who brought enormous joy to his life. Many remembered him as “one of life’s true gentlemen,” a man who “always had time for everyone,” and someone who treated people with fairness, respect and genuine interest. Whether meeting neighbours on the Dunmore Road, chatting in Lidl, catching up with old friends from Newbridge, or sharing stories with colleagues from Bausch and Lomb and Rayban, Tom had a rare way of making people feel listened to, valued and better for having met him.
The many tributes shared in Tom’s memory speak of a man whose presence was calm, witty and full of heart. Former colleagues remembered him as “a trusted advisor and true gentleman,” while others spoke of his “mischievous laugh,” his sharp mind and his ability to bring humour and ease to even the busiest days. One tribute described him as “a beautiful person, sincere, warm and kind and always so interested,” while another wrote that “his family and grandchildren were his pride and joy beyond measure.” These words reflect a life lived with humility, compassion and authenticity, and a man whose love for Ger, his daughters and his grandchildren was clear in every conversation. Tom will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, neighbours and colleagues, but the warmth he gave so freely, the laughter he shared and the goodness he carried through life will remain forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
