Family and friends remember William “Bill” Richards as a colourful, creative and unforgettable man whose stories, humour and character stayed with people long after every conversation ended. Late of Williamstown, Waterford City and formerly of Kilmacanogue, Co. Wicklow, Bill carried with him a love for art, music, friendship and life’s more unusual moments. Together with his beloved wife Audrey, he created memories filled with laughter, warmth and personality for those lucky enough to know them. He was remembered as “such a vibrant, memorable, fun character, and always a gentleman,” and as “an amazing artist with stories to keep you entertained for days.” Whether sharing music, giving accordion lessons, telling stories from a life well lived or simply enjoying good company, Bill had a rare gift for making ordinary moments feel full of colour.
The condolences shared in Bill’s memory speak just as strongly of the bond he shared with Audrey, with one message taking comfort in knowing he is now “reunited with your best friend, Auntie Audrey.” Others recalled “fun times with Uncle Bill and Auntie Audrey” across Cavan, Wicklow and Waterford, remembering elderflower wine, accordion lessons and trips that became treasured family stories. These memories capture Bill beautifully: creative, spirited, generous with his time and impossible to forget. Though his passing brings sadness, there is comfort in the thought that his restless soul has now found peace beside Audrey once more. Bill will be remembered for his art, his stories, his humour and the unmistakable individuality he brought into the lives of those around him.
