Family and friends remember Michael D. Wyse as a man who made people feel welcome from the moment they met him. A devoted husband to Ann, a proud father to Cathy, Conor, Claire and Gary, and a cherished grandfather to Freya, Saffi, Remy, Paddy and Jean, family was always the centre of his world. Many who knew Michael spoke of his warmth, humour and genuine interest in others. One friend fondly recalled him greeting visitors with “a twinkle in his eye”, ready for a chat, a joke and a laugh before the evening even began. Others remembered him simply as “one of life’s finest gentlemen”, a man whose kindness, patience and good nature never changed. Whether sharing stories, catching up with neighbours or spending time with family, Michael had a way of making people feel valued and at ease in his company.
Throughout his life Michael built friendships that lasted decades. Former colleagues from P&T, Telecom and Eircom remembered a dependable and respected workmate who was always willing to help others. Friends recalled happy memories stretching back to the 1960s, while those who met him later in life remembered the same warmth and good humour that stayed with him throughout the years. Particularly touching were the memories shared by those who witnessed the love he had for Ann, remembering how devoted he was to her and how happiest he seemed when they were together. Michael’s legacy is not measured in titles or achievements, but in the countless conversations, friendships and acts of kindness that filled his life. He leaves behind treasured memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to Ann, Cathy, Conor, Claire, Gary, his grandchildren, extended family and many friends for years to come.
