Remembering the life of

Mona Manahan (née Casey)

Balinamintra, Dunmore East, Waterford / Waterford City, Waterford

Family and friends remember Mona Manahan as a beautiful, witty and multi-talented woman whose warmth, elegance and fun left a lasting mark on Dunmore East, Waterford and all who knew her. Late of Balinamintra and formerly of John’s Avenue, Mona was deeply loved by David, Adam, Sarah, Gavin and Simon, by her grandchildren Ivan, Abigail and Jack, and by her extended family, neighbours and many friends. So many memories of Mona are shared alongside her beloved Des, with one tribute saying, “It was always Des and Mona! Or, Mona and Des,” while another remembered them as “a beautiful couple.” Yet Mona’s own light shines clearly in every message, as a lady of great kindness, humour, talent and unmistakable presence.

Mona is remembered through the life she helped create around family, friendship, music, hospitality and community. Friends recalled “The Good Old Days,” parties in The Doneraile, happy days in Dunmore, and music sessions over the years with Mona and Des. One tribute remembered being always welcomed by Mona in Manahans shop in Lower Dunmore East, while another spoke of the fondest memories working with her in Red Kettle, the parties at her house and the recipes she shared. She was described as “a lady of great warmth, elegance and fun,” and as someone who made “an invaluable contribution to the cultural life of Waterford.” May David, Adam, Sarah, Gavin, Simon and all the Manahan and Casey families find comfort in knowing how deeply Mona was loved, how richly she lived, and how peacefully she now rests, reunited with Des, young Des, Jake and all those gone before her.
