Remembering the life of

Aidan (Sammy) Connolly

Crobally Heights, Tramore, Waterford / Wexford Town, Wexford

Family and friends remember Aidan “Sammy” Connolly as a man full of character, humour and conversation, someone who made ordinary days brighter simply by being himself. Late of Crobally Heights, Tramore and formerly of Wexford Town, Aidan was dearly loved by his sons David and Daniel, his sisters Mary, Sheila and Catherine, his extended family, neighbours, colleagues and many friends. Those who knew him remembered his big personality, his lengthy chats, his good humour and the way he always had time for people. One colleague said he made even ordinary days more enjoyable, while another recalled that any day out on the road with Aidan was “anything but boring.” He was valued not only for his company, but for his mind, his opinions and that unmistakable ability to offer “an alternate view.”

Aidan is remembered with real affection in the places and circles that shaped his life, from schooldays and work friendships to Crobally Heights, morning chats in Tramore, residents’ gatherings and the serious Cheltenham conversations that came around every March. Friends spoke of him as a great character, the life and soul of many a gathering, always full of chat, proud of his boys, and a man who brought “intellect, mischief and fun” into the lives of others. Even near the end, Aidan’s kindness showed in the effort he made to offer comfort to someone else, a final gesture that said so much about the man he was. May David, Daniel, Mary, Sheila, Catherine and all who loved Sammy find comfort in the memories, laughter and stories he leaves behind, and in the thought that he now rests peacefully with his beloved Carmel.
