Remembering the life of

Tom Davidson

Gortaclode, Kilmeaden, Waterford

Family and friends remember Tom Davidson as a gentle, gifted and much-loved man whose life was rooted in family, friendship, hard work and a deep knowledge of the natural world. Late of Gortaclode, Kilmeaden, Tom was dearly loved by Morag, Fiona and Douglas, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, neighbours and many friends. Scottish born, Tom made his home in Kilmeaden, where he became known not only as a kind neighbour and true gentleman, but as someone whose expertise in horticulture, trees, garden design and beekeeping was freely and generously shared. One tribute remembered him as an “outstanding horticulturalist as well as a great character,” while another recalled how he was always willing to offer advice on gardens, bees and anything connected to horticulture.

Tom’s life left memories across many places and many people. Friends remembered working with him in the early years of the glasshouses in Piltown, growing and harvesting tomatoes, while others spoke with gratitude of the help he gave in their gardens over the years. His knowledge was matched by warmth, humour and a distinctive presence, with one friend remembering the excellent advice he gave, all delivered in his “wonderful lilting Scottish accent.” Ballyduff Soccer Club remembered Tom joining the club when he and his family settled in Kilmeaden, playing in their first league game in the 1970/71 season and for many years after, a connection later shared by Douglas and Sam. Neighbours remembered the smile, the wave from the car, the chats, and the kindness of a man who was always a pleasure to meet. May all who loved Tom find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind, in the gardens he helped shape, the wisdom he passed on, the family he adored, and the tender thought that he is now reunited with his beloved Moira.

Late of Gortaclode, Kilmeaden Co. Waterford, Tom passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the exceptional care of all the staff in Killure Bridge Nursing Home on Saturday the 12th of September 2026 RIP.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Moira.

Tom will be deeply missed by his heartbroken children Morag, Fiona, and Douglas; his adoring grandchildren Laura, Kevin, Andrea, Louise, Stephane, Gabrielle and Sam; his six great-grandchildren James, Holly, Faye, Emily, Grace and Margo; his son-in-law Pat and daughter-in-law Sarah. Tom will be sadly missed by all his extended family, relatives, wonderful neighbours, his many friends, and all who knew him.
