Family and friends remember Paul “Dukie” Drew as a kind, gentle and quietly funny man whose warmth made a lasting impression on the people around him. Late of Colbert Park, Janesboro and The Cross, Tramore, Paul was a much-loved brother to Mary and David and a cherished uncle, while Paula was not only his carer but also his great friend. Those who knew Dukie spoke again and again of his humour, his kindness and the easy company he brought with him. One friend remembered him as “a great character” who was always full of fun and laughter, while another described him as a quiet and unassuming man whose words carried “weight, wit and wisdom.” Others simply remembered the smile, the chat and the kindness of a man who always seemed willing to give people his time.
Dukie will also be remembered for the friendships he built over many years in both Limerick and Tramore. Friends recalled great nights out, plenty of laughs and the comfort of knowing Dukie would get everyone home safely, while others remembered him from his taxi days as a gentleman and a reassuring presence. His friendship with Reggie was mentioned with particular affection, with several people taking comfort in imagining the two friends reunited. One tribute described Dukie as a good neighbour, a patient teacher, a supportive friend and confidant, while another summed him up simply as “a great human, always kind.” May Mary, David, Ita, Paula and all of Paul’s family and friends find comfort in the laughter, friendships and everyday memories they shared with a man whose kindness, humour and gentle nature will be deeply missed.
