Mount Melleray Abbey, established in 1832 in Cappoquin, County Waterford, Ireland, is a Roman Catholic monastery founded by Irish and English monks. Originally part of Melleray Abbey in France, these monks relocated following the French Revolution of 1830. The Abbey was officially founded on the feast of St. Bernard in 1833, with the blessing of its foundation stone by Bishop William Abraham. Over the years, Mount Melleray has been involved in establishing other monastic communities and is known for its significant historical contributions to the Cistercian order, including the construction of its new abbey church in 1940. Located 59 minutes from our funeral home, this serene and historic abbey offers a tranquil setting for memorial services, amidst a legacy of monastic devotion and community service.
