Family and friends remember Dan Spillane as a true gentleman with a deep love for family, football and his Cork roots. Originally from Donnybrook in Douglas, Dan brought his rich character and humour to Tramore, where he made his home with Rosaleen and their beloved family. Though his career spanned well-known names like Ford in Cork and Nacanco in Waterford, it was his personal presence – his warmth, quick wit, and loyal heart – that truly defined him. He loved the game, whether watching it, managing it, or simply talking about it. From Ringmahon Rangers to Douglas Hall AFC, where he served as Chairman, and later in Tramore Golf Club, Dan made his mark through camaraderie, conversation, and quiet leadership.
Above all, Dan was a family man. He adored Rosaleen, his lifelong partner, and their children Anthony, Derek, Jennifer and Orla. He lit up around his grandchildren Rebecca, David and Chloe, and his memory will forever live on through them. In his final weeks, the outpouring of love said it all. “A gentle giant,” one tribute said, “with great memories of Donnybrook and the Mangala.” Another said, “What a man, what a manager.” Even after moving to Tramore, Dan never lost his Cork humour or pride, affectionately remembered as “Tramore’s very own Corkman.” He had a story for every room and a kindness for every person. Dan lived fully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, laughter and love.
