Late of Boatstrand, Annestown, Co Waterford, Des passed away following a domestic accident on Friday 20th Dec 2024, surrounded by his loving family, at the Burns Unit at St James Hospital in Dublin.
Retired history teacher at Christian Brothers Tramore, mining historian, author, Copper Coast Geopark instigator, adventurer, story teller, and generous host, he will be greatly missed by all.
Des’s passing has left a big gap in the lives of his children, Turlough, Mona and Lir; his sister Vera; his grandchildren Barney, Jack, Sophie and Jay; and great grandchildren Sean, Derry and Barra and his extended German family from his late partner, Karen Többe, He will be greatly missed by his local community, and by his many many friends worldwide.

Des will be reposing at Falconers Funeral Home, Riverstown, Tramore, Co. Waterford on Friday the 27th of December from 5pm to 7pm
All are welcome
A celebration of Des’s life will take place on Saturday the 28th of December in the Copper Coast Geopark, Bunmahon from 10am to 11am, followed by a private cremation.
Refreshments will be served after Mr Cowman’s service. The family would like people to stay and have a chat about Des.
