Family and friends remember Jack O’Keeffe as one of life’s true gentlemen, a great character and a familiar Waterford face who always seemed to have time for a chat. Late of Hillcrest, John’s Hill, Jack was Noreen’s beloved husband, a much-loved Dad to Noel, Ray and Trina, and a cherished Grandad to Jack, Sean, Niall, Zoe, Lauren, Daire and Charlie. Many of the memories shared since his passing lead back to R. O’Keeffe’s and Sons Monumental Works on Michael Street, where people remember stopping at the yard gates for conversation, calling into the shed with the stove going, and enjoying Jack’s banter and good humour. One former business contact recalled that Jack “always made time for you,” enjoyed the chat and never rushed decisions, describing him as a real pleasure to deal with.
Jack was also deeply woven into the life of John’s Hill, with one neighbour describing him as a “stalwart” of the area and another simply saying, “Will miss you on the hill.” Friends remembered Saturday night chats, years of visits and laughter, his kind words and the fun he brought to conversation. Above all, the messages from his grandchildren reveal the place he held within his family. Zoe wrote simply, “I will miss you grandad” and “Love you forever and always,” while Lauren remembered him as the “best grandad in the world.” Predeceased by his parents Noel and Kathleen, Jack leaves behind Noreen, Noel, Ray, Trina, his grandchildren, brothers Jimmy, Edward and Robbie and his wider family and friends. May they find comfort in the chats, humour, family memories and familiar presence of a man who left a lasting mark on both his family and the city he called home.
