Family and friends remember Joan Williams as a woman of deep kindness, integrity and grace. Known to many through her career in education and her time in the Department of Education Inspectorate, Joan was described as “the absolute essence of professionalism, courtesy and kindness,” leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength and enduring respect. In her days as a teacher and later as a colleague in the Inspectorate, she carried herself with empathy and unwavering dedication. Many recalled her warm and gentle presence, and the calm encouragement she gave to those she worked with. One colleague wrote, “She was a lovely gentle lady… always a pleasure to meet and work with.” Another said simply, “She was a woman of integrity, a true professional and a good-humoured friend.”
Joan passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family and in the compassionate care of Mooncoin Residential Home. Her children Patricia, Eva, Ken and Eddie, her grandchildren, and all her extended family take great comfort in the outpouring of kind words and shared memories. Joan is remembered not only for her professional life, but for the thoughtful love she gave her family, her intellect, and her quiet sense of humour. “It was always a pleasure to meet her,” one message read, “and her loss will be deeply felt by all who knew her.” As her family and friends prepare to lay her to rest, they do so with hearts full of gratitude for the life she lived and the lives she touched. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
