Remembering the life of

Joseph (Joe) Smith

Meadowbrook, Tramore, Waterford

Family and friends remember Joseph “Joe” Smith as a man whose kindness, humour and generosity left a lasting mark on countless lives throughout Tramore and far beyond. Late of Meadowbrook, Joe was known not only as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, but as someone who gave his time, heart and energy so freely to others. Deeply devoted to his beloved wife Wilma and forever carrying the memory of his cherished daughter Tess close to his heart, Joe’s family meant everything to him. His adored children Annette, Caroline and Chris, along with his treasured grandchildren Alanna, Olivia, Ciara, Ethan and Jamie, brought him immense pride and happiness throughout his life. But Joe’s love extended far beyond his own family circle. Through years spent as a foster father and as a volunteer with the Special Olympics, he quietly helped and supported so many people, opening his home and his heart whenever they were needed most. One condolence described him beautifully as “kindness personified,” while another remembered him simply as “a gentle giant,” words that captured the warmth and goodness so many people experienced in Joe’s company.

The messages shared following Joe’s passing painted the picture of a man who made people feel welcome, valued and cared for wherever he went. Friends and neighbours remembered “a smile and a chat for everyone,” while others spoke of “that great laugh” and the humour that brightened ordinary days. One touching tribute reflected that “Joe touched many and helped so many,” while another described him as “one of the nicest people you could meet.” Family memories carried the same deep love, with one heartbreaking message reading, “your smile was worth a million dollars.” Joe was the kind of man who people naturally gravitated towards – dependable, funny, caring and endlessly generous with his time. Whether through lifelong friendships, family gatherings, helping others through difficult moments or simply sharing laughter over everyday conversations, Joe made people feel better for having known him. His passing leaves an enormous emptiness for Wilma, Annette, Caroline, Chris, his grandchildren, extended family and many lifelong friends, but also immense gratitude for a life that gave so much love, comfort and happiness to so many people. His kindness and spirit will never be forgotten.

Late of Meadowbrook, Tramore, Co. Waterford. Joe passed peacefully at home with his loving family at his side. RIP May 24th 2026.
