Remembering the life of

Kathleen (Kathy) O’Brien (née Geelan)

Sweetbriar Lawn, Tramore, Waterford

Family and friends remember Kathleen “Kathy” O’Brien as a warm, thoughtful and deeply loved woman whose calm nature, wisdom and kindness stayed with people long after each conversation ended. Late of Sweetbriar Lawn, Tramore and formerly of her beloved London, Kathy was devoted to Kerry, Siobhan and Philip, adored Liadain, Aoibhi and Finn, and was treasured by her wider family, neighbours, friends and former pupils. She was remembered as a great neighbour, a wonderful teacher and someone who always had a kind word to offer. One friend spoke of Kathy’s “calm nature and wise words,” while another said she had always made time to listen, offer encouragement and sit down over a cuppa and cake when it was needed most.

Kathy’s years as a teacher left a particularly lasting mark. A former pupil remembered how Kathy supported her through the loss of her own mother, offering advice and care that remained meaningful many years later. Others spoke of how Kathy touched their lives through simple acts of kindness, thoughtful conversations, humour and friendship. Even while unwell, she was remembered for bringing treats to others, a small gesture that says so much about the generosity of her character. May Kerry, Siobhan, Philip and all who loved Kathy find comfort in the lives she quietly shaped, the wisdom she shared, the love she gave so freely, and the thought that she now rests peacefully with her beloved Philip.

Late of Sweetbriar Lawn, Tramore, Co. Waterford. Formerly of her beloved London, England. Kathy passed peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, the 12th of September 2026. RIP.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Philip.

Kathy will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her heartbroken children Kerry, Siobhan and Philip, her adoring grandchildren Liadain, Aoibhi and Finn; Kerry’s partner Kieran and Philips partner Joni. She will be forever missed by all her relatives, extended family, wonderful neighbours and many many friends.

The O’Brien family would like to thank with great appreciation all the staff in University Hospital Waterford and especially Dr. Ann Horgan and her team; Dr. Denise Hayes and Roisin and the palliative care team for the excellent care and attention Kathy received throughout her time there.

May Kathy rest peacefully.
