Remembering the life of

Mary Flanagan (née McBride)

Ballykinsella, Tramore, Waterford / Ferrybank, Waterford

Family and friends remember Mary Flanagan as a warm, kind and deeply loved woman whose life was shaped by care, conversation and devotion to those closest to her. Late of Ballykinsella, Tramore and formerly of Belmont Road, Ferrybank, Mary was Anthony’s beloved wife, Deirdre’s beautiful Mam, a much-loved sister, aunt, neighbour, friend and former colleague. Her sudden passing has left deep shock and sadness, but the messages shared in her memory speak of a woman who brought gentleness into ordinary moments. She was remembered as bright and pleasant to meet, always a pleasure to chat to, always in good humour, and someone whose kindness was felt by all who crossed her path.

Mary’s years as a psychiatric nurse in St. Otteran’s Hospital were remembered with great affection and respect. Former colleagues spoke of her as a great nurse, a wonderful colleague, a cherished friend, and a woman who was kind, dedicated, loyal and supportive to those she worked beside. One tribute said she was “a pleasure to know and work with,” while another described her as “pleasant and kind to all,” words that capture both the nurse she was and the person she remained throughout her life. To Anthony, Deirdre and all who loved her, Mary leaves behind a legacy of care, quiet strength and beautiful memories. A good heart has stopped beating, but the love she gave, the kindness she showed and the lives she touched will continue to live on.

Late of Ballykinsella, Tramore, Co. Waterford. Formerly of Belmont Road, Ferrybank, Waterford. Former Psychiatric Nurse in St. Otteran’s Hospital, Waterford City. Mary passed peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday the 2nd of September 2026. RIP.

Mary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Anthony; her daughter Deirdre, her sisters Teresa and Anne; her sister-in-law Clare and her brother-in-law Declan.
