Family and friends remember Mary McGrath as a woman of quiet strength, compassion and unwavering kindness. Late of Ballygarron, Dunmore East and originally from Dunkitt, Mary was a gentle soul whose life centred around her family and her faith. She gave everything to her children Eamonn, Imelda and Brendan, raising them with love, patience and quiet guidance. A devoted wife to her beloved late husband Patrick and a deeply proud grandmother to John, Rebecca, Christopher, Kevin, Jamie and Sophie, Mary had a gift for making others feel safe, heard and cared for. Her home was a haven, her words were thoughtful, and her presence brought peace to all who knew her. In her earlier years, she made lasting friendships through her work at the Tower Hotel, and in later life she was lovingly supported by the carers and palliative care team who helped her family care for her at home. Her strength through loss and her love for those around her will never be forgotten.
The messages shared in her memory speak volumes of her life and the love she leaves behind. One former colleague wrote, “We worked together in the Tower Hotel many moons ago, Mary was a lovely friend, always so kind.” A neighbour remembered, “She was a lovely kind lady and a dear friend who will never be forgotten.” Another shared, “Sincere sympathy to the McGrath family on the passing of your mam, a wonderful kind lady, may she rest in peace.” From her childhood community came a message: “I remember her very well from when we were all young together in Dunkitt.” And a final tribute summed it up simply: “She was a lovely lady. May her gentle soul rest in peace.” Through her kindness, warmth, and quiet resilience, Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, dignity and deep devotion, a life well lived and a woman well loved.
