Family and friends remember Nicholas O’Connor as the kind of man who brought light, laughter and pure heart into every space he entered. From his early days in Castle Street in Waterford City to his life in Riversdale Park in Tramore, he carried with him a natural warmth that drew people in and made them feel at ease. Those who worked with him in Waterford Crystal still speak of him fondly, remembering his humour, his pride in the craft, and the friendships formed there. His time with McDonalds Builders and his lifelong connection to Tramore Boxing Club gave him communities he cherished. At home he was devoted to Helen, his best friend in all things, and he was endlessly proud of Gemma, Jennifer and Nicholas Jnr, whose lives he filled with joy, mischief and music. His grandchildren were the pride of his later years, and he faced illness with a courage that inspired everyone around him. Nicholas lived with an energy that made ordinary days memorable, always greeting others with a smile and a quick word that made life feel lighter.
The love people had for him is clear in the tributes shared. One person wrote that they remembered working with him in Waterford Glass and growing up with him on Castle Street and that the memories would stay with them always. Another said he was a true gent and an absolute pleasure to be around and that there are many stars but few that shine so bright. Someone else described him simply as always the funniest person in the room. A neighbour said that he made even the hardest days brighter during treatment with his constant smiling and storytelling. And another wrote that he was full of fun and laughter and that once you turned the corner to the house you could hear the beat of his music before you reached the door. These memories tell the story of a man who gave everything of himself, who loved people deeply, and who left a mark that will not fade. His family can hold close the knowledge that he was adored by many and that his joy, kindness and unforgettable presence will continue to live on in every heart he touched.
