Family and friends remember Paddy as a kind-hearted and deeply committed individual who touched the lives of everyone he met. His colleagues at WIT recall him as a pivotal leader whose dedication and vision played a significant role in shaping the institution. Paddy was widely admired for his warmth, humour, and ability to inspire others, creating a positive and supportive atmosphere for all. His generous spirit and genuine care for those around him left a lasting impression on his family, friends, and colleagues.
Many fondly reflect on his personal kindness, with his family at the heart of his life. Paddy’s legacy is evident not only in his professional accomplishments but also in the love and support he gave to those close to him. His wisdom, good humour, and ability to bring people together will be remembered fondly, leaving behind cherished memories for those who were fortunate to know him. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all whose lives he enriched.
Late of Seaview Park, Tramore, Co. Waterford. Formerly of Cavan and Guilford, Surrey, England. Paddy passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday the 12th of December 2024 RIP.
Paddy is predeceased by his beloved mother Letitia and his brothers Liam, Phil and Sean.
Paddy will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his heartbroken wife Evelyn; his loving children Lorraine, Declan and Carol; his adoring grandchildren Cian, Conor, Jack, Lauren, Rory, Gavin, Hugh, Abigail, Eve and E.J; his sisters Teresa, Rosaleen, and Kathleen; his daughter-in-law Eimear and his sons-in-law Colm and Alan. He will be forever missed by all his extended family, relatives, wonderful neighbours and many many friends.
The Downey family would like to thank with great appreciation all the staff of University Hospital Waterford and the staff of The Mater Private Hospital, Dublin for the exceptional care Paddy received throughout his illness.

Paddy will be reposing at Falconers Funeral Home, Riverstown, Tramore, Co. Waterford on Saturday the 14th of December from 3pm to 5pm.

Paddy’s Requiem Mass will take place on Sunday the 15th of December, at 1:30pm at The Church of The Holy Cross, Tramore, Co. Waterford. Immediately after Paddy will be laid to rest in the St. Declan’s Cemetery, Riverstown, Tramore. Anyone wishing to take part in Paddy’s Requiem Mass remotely please follow the link here.
Paddy’s Funeral cortege will walk from Tramore Credit Union/Lodges Corner at approximately 1:10 pm to arrive for his Requiem Mass at 1:30pm.
