Remembering the life of

Richard (Dixie) Larkin

Ballyduff, Waterford

Family and friends remember Richard “Dixie” Larkin as a man whose warmth, humour and kindness made him instantly recognisable and deeply loved within his community. Late of Ballyduff, Kilmeaden, Dixie was a devoted husband to Maureen and a proud father to Thomas, Derek, Eamon and Louise, whose lives were shaped by his steady presence and generous spirit. Predeceased by his parents and siblings, he remained the centre of a large and devoted family and took great pride in his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him enormous joy. Through his work with Waterford County Council, evenings spent playing darts, rounds of golf with friends and the everyday conversations that filled life in Ballyduff, Dixie was known as a man who brought people together. He had a ready smile, a lively story and a warm welcome for everyone he met, and many simply remember him as “a true gentleman.”

The many tributes shared in Dixie’s memory reflect the affection he inspired throughout his life. Friends recall “always a smile and good humour,” while others remember working alongside him as “a lovely pleasant gentleman who always had a smile for everyone.” Many spoke of the laughter and camaraderie shared on golf courses, at darts nights and in everyday chats along the road, where his humour and friendly nature were always close at hand. One message perhaps captures him best, remembering “the friendliest smile for everyone he met.” Through these memories Dixie will be remembered as a loving husband, proud father and grandfather, a loyal neighbour and a treasured friend whose kindness and cheerful spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
