Family and friends remember Robert “Robbie” Lanigan as a man whose kindness, humour and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. A devoted husband to Miriam, a proud father to Stacey and Robert, and a much loved grandfather to Cormac, Niamh and Fionn, family was always at the centre of his life. The many messages shared following his passing speak of a man who brightened ordinary days with conversation, laughter and genuine interest in others. Whether meeting neighbours, catching up with friends, or enjoying his regular visits to Kingfisher, Robbie was remembered as someone who always had time for a chat, a story or a smile. One tribute said he “shone a bit of light on everyone he met”, while another remembered him as “one in a million”. Others described him as “kindhearted and good-humoured”, “a true and gentle soul” and “a lovely person”, words that capture the warmth and goodness people felt in his company.
Robbie’s life was deeply rooted in friendship, community and pride in his Waterford heritage. Friends recalled memories stretching back to St Declan’s, De La Salle College, St Francis Youth Club, football matches, indoor soccer games and years spent working alongside him. He was remembered as a loyal friend, a dependable colleague and someone whose good humour never left him. One particularly meaningful tribute recalled how Robbie proudly supported the recognition of his grandmother and aunts through the placement of a heritage plaque in Arundel Lane, honouring generations of compassionate women who cared for the poor of Waterford City. Those who knew him best remembered not only his warmth and generosity, but also his pride in family, community and local history. Robbie leaves behind a lifetime of memories, friendships and stories that will continue to be shared by Miriam, Stacey, Robert, his grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and friends for many years to come.
