Remembering the life of

Sr. Thomas (Pauline) O’ Connor

Torquay, England and Summerhill, Tramore, Waterford

Family and friends remember Sr. Thomas, Pauline O’Connor, as a woman of deep faith whose warmth, kindness and joyful spirit touched countless lives. Through her years with the Daughters of the Cross and her connection with St John’s College, she lived her vocation with compassion, generosity and a wonderful sense of fun that people never forgot. She was remembered as “a lovely lady,” “always pleasant to meet and talk with,” and someone who “always had a smile on her face.” One touching tribute captured her beautifully, saying that Sr. Thomas believed “it was your mission to put a smile on everyone’s face,” and those who knew her best will recognise how true that was. Her wit, warmth and lively spirit brightened rooms, lifted hearts and left people better for having known her.

At the heart of Sr. Thomas’s life was a rare and beautiful balance of faith, humanity and joy. She was remembered lovingly as “such a fun nun,” “a true lady with a great sense of humour,” and “a bundle of energy and activity in the service of the Lord and everyone she came across.” She gave comfort, kindness and compassion freely, touched many lives in quiet and lasting ways, and remained full of warmth and humour right to the end. Above all, Pauline was a dearly loved sister to Kathleen and Tom, cherished by her nieces and nephews, treasured within her religious community in Torquay, and remembered with enormous affection by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Hers was a life beautifully lived, full of grace, laughter, faith and love, and her bright spirit will be remembered always.
