An Interview with Tina Kiely: On How To Find Comfort and Wellness this November

As the days get shorter and colder, it’s natural to feel a need for a bit more warmth and care. Erich recently sat down with Tina Kiely, a local holistic therapist, to chat about how her therapies can support not only those dealing with loss but anyone looking to boost their well-being as winter approaches. Here’s what Tina shared with Erich about her work and the many ways it can help people through both tough times and the everyday stresses of life.

Erich: Tina, thanks for taking the time to chat. I think a lot of people in our community might be feeling the effects of the season—whether it’s the emotional weight that often surfaces during winter or the aches and pains that seem to settle in. Can you share a bit about how your work can help with these challenges?

Tina: Absolutely, Erich. As you say, this time of year can bring up a lot for people. Many of us are moving through some kind of difficulty, whether it’s grief, stress, or just the usual strains that come with busy lives. I work with various educational and healing modalities that are all designed to help people feel better in their bodies and minds, whatever they’re dealing with.

For example, my work with the Alexander Technique helps people become more aware of how they hold tension in their bodies. We don’t always realise how things like stress or sadness affect our physical posture. Through gentle verbal and hands-on guidance, people can learn how to release that tension, which can make a huge difference if they’re feeling overwhelmed or in pain.

Erich: That’s fascinating. And it’s true, we often don’t realise how much we’re holding onto in our bodies. What about for those who are dealing with emotional heaviness, especially after a loss?

Tina: Grief is something I deal with a lot in my practice. For some clients, it can feel like a physical weight. Craniosacral Therapy is a very gentle, hands-on approach that facilitates emotional healing. During a session the clients system enters into a deeply relaxed state. When the body and mind become still, deep-seated emotions can come to surface and release. This process allows people to let go of unprocessed feelings that may be contributing to physical pain or discomfort.

For people who are grieving, this can be a really powerful way to feel more of a sense of ease, both emotionally and physically.

Erich: That sounds like it could be very helpful, not only for those who are grieving but also for anyone carrying around hidden stress. You also mentioned mindfulness and breathing—how do those come into play?

Tina: Yes, both are very useful for managing day-to-day stress. I find that breath awareness and mindfulness are very effective tools for creating a sense of calm. They also help people to come out of their heads and into their bodies. Many people breathe shallowly when they’re anxious or stressed, which only adds to the tension. I teach clients how to breathe more deeply and mindfully, which can really help them feel grounded and relaxed.

Erich: It’s incredible how something as simple as breathing can make us feel more present. And you’re also a trained Yoga teacher—how do you bring that into your practice?

Tina: I integrate Yoga exercises into my sessions when it feels appropriate. Yoga can be a fantastic way to release tension and improve flexibility, and sometimes just a few simple movements can help clients feel more comfortable. I choose specific exercises based on what a client needs—some people might benefit from working with the shoulders, others from exercises to open the hips or relax the back. I find that when a client is actively involved in their own healing, it’s really beneficial.

Erich: And I know you also do forest walks. Can you tell us a bit about those?

Tina: Yes, I do guided Forest Bathing walks, which are a wonderful way for people to reconnect with nature. There’s strong evidence supporting these walks. They have been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve mood, boost the immune system, and improve sleep. During these walks, I guide small groups through the woods, inviting them to slow down, notice their surroundings, take nature in through their senses, and just be present. It’s a beautiful way to unwind and let nature do its healing work.

Erich: It all sounds so helpful, Tina. Whether someone is dealing with loss, chronic pain, or just wants to feel better this winter, it seems like you’ve got something for everyone.

Tina: Thank you, Erich. My intention is to offer a space where people feel safe to heal—whether they’re carrying a heavy burden or just want to support their well-being. The body and mind are so connected, and I believe that by addressing both, people can find more peace, ease, and energy in their lives.

We’re grateful to have someone like Tina in our community, bringing comfort and healing to those who need it most. If you’d like to learn more about her services or think they might be a good fit for you, we’re happy to connect you. During these colder months, remember to care for yourself, take things slow, and reach out when you need support.

Warm regards,
Erich Falconer
